After making our giant sun we decided to try to weave a flax rope like Maui.
We visited the flax beside the swimming pool and said a karakia to respect the flax before cutting the outer leaves.
Then we pinched the flax with our fingernails to pierce through and pull down the strips.
Next we explored plaiting the flax to form a rope.
